OK, to be fair, the crazy thing is not that the Yankees are trying to sign Andy Pettitte. It is that they let him go in the first place. And I don't want to see Clemens in pin stripes again:
The Yankees’ solution for their immediate future may come from their recent past. Andy Pettitte is committed to pitching again, and Roger Clemens could eventually join him for a reunion with the Yankees. Pettitte could still return to his hometown Houston Astros, who signed him when he left the Yankees after the 2003 season. But the Yankees are confident they will outbid the Astros, especially after declining to offer a contract to the left-hander Ted Lilly, who agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal with the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday.Ten million for Ted Lilly! That is insane. How could it be that the Yanks, Jays and Cubs could actually have been in a bidding war for that guy.
Sanity reigns, however, in Boston as they close in on Eric Gagner, a real closer with a history of closing.
