This is the sort of thing that gives a contract drafter the yipps:
Language buffs take note — Page 7 of the contract states: The agreement "shall continue in force for a period of five years from the date it is made, and thereafter for successive five year terms, unless and until terminated by one year prior notice in writing by either party."That little bit of ink between "terms" and "unless" makes the one year's termination apply to any point and not just at the five year roll-over. Given that this is a deal for use of 91,000 telephone polls - a far more lucrative trade than you might imagine - the party receiving the notice is rightly concerned. A prize for anyone who can find the CRTC's ruling in this matter from its incomprehensible website.
