Less than a day into banjo ownership and I'm on the third set of strings. Furious fingers do not help but there is that odd certainty that there is another twist needed in the tuning peg just before the twangggg-snap.
In other news, we are aiming for a return stop at Bennington. I hope to learn more of the obelsik. Obelisk you say?
The Bennington Battle Monument, dedicated to the famous Battle of Bennington that took place during the Revolutionary war in 1777, is a 306' stone obelisk opened to the public in 1891. It is located north of VT Rte 9, about 4 miles east of the New York border. A guided elevator takes visitors to the observation floor for spectacular views of Historic Bennington and three states. There is a diorama and several interpretive exhibits on the ground floor along with General Burgoyne's cook kettle. Statues of John Stark, Seth Warner and other notable monuments adorn the grounds. Tickets can be purchased for a small fee in the gift shop that specializes in historical items relating to the Battle of Bennington and Vermont.

I graduated from Bennington College in 87, and it was the place for crazy creative types, and still is. The battle monument is in a pretty village called Old Bennington, and Robert Frost is buried in the church yard there

The actual battlefield is 7-10 miles to the northwest, in New York state.
There is, I believe, a micro-brewery on main st in Bennington...also the Blue Ben diner on rte 7 north is most excellent. Famous even.

I am watching "Swept Away" by Guy Ritchie. I figured it got negative reviews because people are always ready to trash Madonna's acting and besides because of the husband and wife project angle. Well, I'll damned if it isn't the worst film I have ever seen. And that's including Zardoz and Solaris (the original). Though now I think about it there is still Lost in Space (the remake) this is worse. What I can't figure out is what Ritchie thought he was doing: Are we supposed to want to watch his wife being sexually assaulted/ham-fisted comedy? Also, wtf is up with Madonna's triceps? She is like King Kong or something.
Still I think I'll take this over the banjo.

Lost in Space
Lost in Space was just plain brilliant. Only because of Heather Graham, of course.

There was a banjo in Zardoz wasn't there? A big floating banjo that kept saying "I am Zardoz!"
