The Flea has made his demand: more banjo news.
For those of you who were elementary school children of the early 70s, whose school bus radios played Crosby, Still and Nash or "Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue" by Crystal Gayle leading to an inordinate desire to strum a guitar, leaving you know with the knowledge of what a Bm7 looks like but not much inspiration to do anything with it...good news. The banjo is easier than the guitar even if it is also harder. The reason? Two less strings. Not to mention that great plicky-plucky sound that all the cool kids are looking for. And all the weight is in the round bottom bit making it less unwieldy compared to a six-string. I am working on the Greatest Hits of the Pixies: "...debaser...[pucka pluck]...debaser...SING ALONG, KIDS!"
The acquisition at $125.00 USD (used) was a little wiser than I thought as I have been able to ascertain that the thing actually has a name - it's a Dean Backwoods 3. Not the sub-basement of banjos even if the basement. Funny as I had in mind that I was going to call the band the Flea, portland and I might put together "The Backwoods 3". I sense there is more check-shirt and trucker cap to the Fleaster than he might lead one to believe. My first goal is to learn enough to go into a music shop and try out really good banjos to see what the difference is without making the guy behind the counter thing I am a total edjit.
Ye. Ha.
