The Sox played well against Baltimore in last night's 6-3 win. Big game for Manny. It is good for Manny to be having big games. Jerry Remy was even focused enough to not really go on about the restaurants of Baltimore in the 6th inning or so - which is sad as I imagine there are some nice ones. I was impressed with Meuller at third - especially his picking off a man at home on a bases loaded force play set up by Bronson Arroyo when he struggled early on. Good to see him come back and play stronger and stronger, too.
After the game, I got on to AM radio - that miracle of technology - and listened to WTIC Hartford 1080, WBAL Baltimore 1090 and WTAM Cleveland 1100 for the updates. The announcer on WTAM went on about the relative quality of their opponent this weekend, the Kansas City Royals, as opposed to Baltimore who the Red Sox face. The Royals have pride and could take a game even though it is meaningless. He had no such faith in Baltimore which is having an awful year between a massive second half collapse to the Rafael Palmeiro scandal.
"I'm so scared of you, Papi!" "No. I'm so scared of youuu, A-Rod!!!"
Good news. Of the nine games left, I am only missing today and tomorrow's games - though WBAL may have a free live streaming broadcast. I get to watch six Red Sox games in a row from Monday to Saturday on sportsnet, TSN, UPN 38 and Fox...and if I need to I can catch the Sunday game against the Yanks, the final game of the year, on 1410 AM from the porch or go to a sports bar in northern New York but that would be crossing a line. Thank you for your emails of concern. It'll be OK.
