In a move that will muddle the legally muddled, Yahoo has announced that it is setting up a digital library on the web that actually considers and respects copyright:
Yahoo is taking on Google with its own digital archive of books, audio and video. As part of the Open Content Alliance, Yahoo will help digitise 18,000 works of American literature plus material from national and European archives. It hopes to avoid the legal action that has dogged Google's plan by adopting an opt-in policy on copyrighted works. How alarming to those who place tech toys over people, who would take what is not theirs. If someone can show that it is possible to do this legitimately, will the illegalists still be able to look at each other with a straight face?
