I have to check if this is actually in the Supreme Court's notice of leave to appeal in a certain case issued this morning but the Lang Michener Supreme Court of Canada L@wLetter says this:
David Couture was convicted of murder in 1986. His wife, Darlene Couture met him in prison on other charges in 1989. She married him in 1996. In 1997, she gave two statements to police regarding disclosures made to her by him shortly after they met, and before they were married. At the time of the statements, Mrs. Couture was living separate from her husband; however, they since reconciled and remained married at the time of trial. The trial judge admitted the statements; however, this was overturned by the Court of Appeal, who ordered a new trial. Is 'what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas' a principle of law in Canada.Love it.
