As reported by Boing, two of the thirteen core computers at the heart of the Internet are screwing up for some reason or another. I noticed it in the stats and performance this week. All appears fine at the moment according to the Internet Health Report.
You forget that this is not a public utility or a simple tool. It is a thing run on machines operated by people fed by money flow. Plus there is the whole governance debate. It may be that reasons other than creeping disinterest in the hobby aspect of the web and the false promise of technology may radically change the Internet over the next few years.
Update: here is another way. A court has ordered the US Department of the Interior to disconnect given inherent security issues. I have often...daily, nay, every luncheon, why all employees and databases of organizations are attached to the Internet. I would bet few of the efficiency studies on new technology factor in the time suck of the web surf let alone the loss of secrecy that never arose with a filing cabinet and a night guard.
Update #2: ...and what about getting a handle on terrorism through counter-terrorism on the net? Will that have an effect, a chill after an incident? Plus, I was listening to a radio essay [Ed.: ahhh...radio...] about the Beatles in India and was reminded that one aspect of the summer of love thing was the ideal of material modesty - sure it was quickly abandoned but will there come an era that celebrates technological modesty?

I think the problem lies in all these evil scripting languages that reside on 'web servers'. These evil languages can spit out HTML on the fly!
We all should go back to static HTML. Better yet, HTML is a substandard: Gopher rules!

I know - I wanted to create a hysteria in the header to grab a new audience, the failed hypocritical luddite.

Or here is another way - use of the internet will become un-elite and the backlash against it snobworthy. Mass pop will pick it up and only losers will be said to fritter their lives away on the computer...like that isn't the case already.
