My copy of Franz Ferdinand's new CD arrived. Joy unbound. Here is my statement on music of the 21st century: these guys are as vital to this moment as The Smiths were twenty years ago. The world needs guitar bands filled with skinny lads to pick up all the pieces of the puzzle and give them a good rearranging. They are the first band to make me jealous of the undergrad of any time after my own. I want to build that new un-tech counter culture around the sound they make. Their reliance on the medium of Rickbacker guitars give me hope that they will be the voice of paper and trowel, cheese and sinew.
...You're the reason I'm leavingAnd it's dancable. And Bowie loves them. I love many things Bowie loves.I'd no idea that in four years
I'd be hanging from a beam
behind the door of number ten
Singing fare thee well
I am leaving
Yes I leave it all to you...
Best of all, the future is here again with a DualDisc format of CD audio on one side and a DVD on the other. The swooptastic logo lies below. Somewhere I have a mid-90's CD with hidden video tracks for playing on Windows 3.1 if you had the Pentium 133 required to handle all that rocking out. I did not. One day I will buy a DVD and I will watch glowing images of Franz Ferdinand in my own home.

Did you see that Scots film "Sweet Sixteen" with Martin Compston, the young guy from "Monarch of the Glen"? He and his pals are all Morton fans ~ I couldnae underrstand them even with the subtitles. Somewhat dreary, but interesting film.
I shall orrderrr that disc.
