From yesterday's Whig comes news that 86 wind turbines are to be built at the mouth of the St. Lawrence. A project of this scale so close to a city is very interesting:
Kingston is set to become one of Canada’s "greenest" cities, now that the provincial government has approved a project to build 86 wind turbines on Wolfe Island within three years. The Ontario government announced yesterday it has accepted a joint bid by Kingston’s Gaia Power Inc. and Alberta’s Canadian Hydro Developers to build a $410-million wind farm that will supply the provincial power grid with 537,000 megawatt-hours per year – enough to power 75,000 households and more than is used by the entire city.Interesting more so given the very similar scale project that is being built now at Tug Hill across the border. Makes you wonder what the theoretical turbine capacity for the region of eastern Lake Ontario could be or if a cable south from the island is as easily done as one north.
