I think that one of the diffferences between Americans and Canadians is that Rodney Dangerfield got no respect. Red Green, on the other hand, is a Canadian icon and a standard against which every Canadian male falls by the wayside.
The last Red Green Show was taped last night in Toronto. While very different from urban humour like Kids In The Hall or Twitch City, all rely in their way on cheery absurdity without much implicit commentary except perhaps of the existential sort - which I think is the real strength in our national taste in comedy.
I would wager money that there will be many funerals years from now at which a friend gets up to remember the departed pal who will find no better words to sum up the life than the Man's Prayer:
"I'm a man...But I can change...If I have to...I guess."

I have to tell a CANADIAN about the Red Green movie???? "Duct Tape forever."
My sister's family lives in far northern Minnesota, and casting from Red Green wanted a few American actors from loyal PBS viewing stations, and my niece acts, so she was recruited for the movie, and my sister was given tickets to fly to Toronto with her, but she brought my nephew too, and my parents joined them, they joined the crew at a nice park just north of Toronto, and at a certain point my nieces parts were over, BUT extras were needed and my family was standing around watching, sooo....they were included in the barroom fight scene.
For my niece, (age 9) at one point she was told to walk down the railroad eating a banana and (UNKNOWN to her), Edgar was blowing the tracks up. They got a predictably big reaction from her. Where's the lawsuit in that? The kid didn't know what was coming....but the scenes were later cut. You and your family can try to see this movie sometime, it is not high art, but it is very very funny, and it is clean, and Harold gets.......
Well, there is a rather stellar performance from the BODACIOUS female cop, so check it out!
Keep yer stick on the ice.......GR

It just never stuck in my brain. Did anyone else see the Red Green Movie...as in people not related to cast members?
