Well, another week has passed and on these slower days blogospherically-speaking, it is time to chat. Some of the things I have been thinking of this week are:
- I see that the daily visit stats are tracking down but daily visitors are not. As most activity around here in the background is from Google or (to be honest) spam-based... I wonder sometimes if there is a general decrease in either blogging activity (despite guruific claims) or if spam is retracting. Would anyone tell you if they were...or could anyone even tell you at all? Are internet and blogging stats like a used car salesman's pitch?
- I still have an urge to see if blog comments can actually be constructive rather than argumentative. Last week I was quite pleased to see David, NYCO and I work out an understanding of the degree of copyright infringement Google Press offered through using and discussing the tool. It increased my understanding without getting hot under the collar. Why is that not more done? What is it about the medium that makes people complain and crank at each other?
- A new poll says Canadians have hit an all time low on trust in government. Do you agree? Do you distinguish between politicians and the civil servince?

Sorry. I threatened the paradigm a bit there.

Re blogging stats -- my ratio of visitors:pageloads has remained pretty constant but my number of visitors has tracked down over the past half-year. This could be because my content has changed somewhat or because I'm no longer ensconced in the Montreal blogosphere. But I suspect that it's neither of those. I suspect that I'm not able to accurately track the increasing percentage of people who read me via an RSS reader.
I don't know how you track.. but I read most of the genx40 articles through Google reader.

My server stats - as opposed to the front page site meter ones - show I am over 90% RSS and (very oddly to me) 50% BitTorrent. Is there a BitTorrent based aggregator I know nothing about?
David Janes - November 11, 2005 11:30 AM
BitTorrent is Sparks!, for reasons I cannot figure out.
Alan - November 11, 2005 11:34 AM
Ahhh - now I understand it all as that 50% matches the application of Sparks as browser of choice.

It helps that you are on the default blog list!

Where do I get this default blog list??

If you download David's aggregator, Sparks, I am a pre-set. I have to wear this odd harness on Tuesdays as long as I am a pre-set but I think it is worth it.
