Here we are again. It is getting like shaving. Every morning I look in the mirror when I am shaving and think - here I am shaving again in the morning. Well, it's Friday and in the cause of getting you through today here are somethings to chat about:
- I have been pleasantly surprised watching Jack Layton, our local Lenin according to Ale Fan, take on the task of getting the country to do something. He has eclipsed Harper without making the Tories look bad. Maybe they are a bit bewildered as to who all the happy people in corduroy jackets are that they are suddenly getting back slaps from. I think Don is going to end up voting NDP.
- I followed a very interesting discussion over at Castle Argghhh! yesterday on the nature of military chaplaincy. It is actually still going. That blog is a great place to learn and listen and chat even if you disagree or don't get most of what is said. A great example of civility and archaine artillery shells from near Fort Leavenworth.
- Web 2.0 is getting a good kicking as is the advent of a new aggregator offering little new (but perhaps a way for some venture capitalists to lose money) called Open Source Media. Jay Currie is going a good job covering the boondoggle from the get go. Others are just making fun of the entire Web 2.0 thing. It's like that podcasting thing everyone was talking about in the spring. Remember how we were all going to work in our spare time every week for five hours to make five minutes of really really bad web audio that no one listens to? Tod Maffin, Canada's nicest futurist, is the only one who really believes in the stuff but he is both getting someone to foot a cross-Canada tour related to it and is the king of the unusual incidental music selection in his CBC radio spots about things that will never occur, aka futurism.
- And speaking of the CBC, it is odd to have been selected by the masses as a repository of discontent for CBC's new afternoon show Freestyle. Lord Google is a fickle god, however, and his ways are a mystery to behold. Especially when it comes to the rollout of new products like the stats system, Analytics, that hasn't worked since it was announced. 'Nee is right: Google is creepy.

I would have voted for Red Ed Broadbent in Ottawa Centre last time if I thought he wasn't going to beat the Liberal handily.
This time though, with Ed leaving, the Liberal involved in questionable lobbying activities, and with a strong Conservative candidate wearing the blue colours I'm hoping I won't have to consider it.
Jardine was in this riding last election and he said he considered voting NDP as well in order to take down the Liberal though it would probably mean a week huddled in the fetal position at the bottom of the shower to get over the trauma. My thoughts exactly.

Who says regular NDP voters like me don't spend most evenings in that position?

Gold:<blockquote class="smalltext">I asked the Boston guy if he was a blogger. It seems like the right question with this crowd.<p>"I’m thinking about it," he said.<p>"What would you blog about if you had a blog," I then asked.<p>"It's clear in my mind but I can’t put it into words," he said after an incredibly long pause.<p>Thankfully, he was wise enough to put off his blog launch until he figured out the words part...</blockquote>

Harper is now sticking up for Layton:<blockquote class="smalltext">A senior Conservative source said Mr. Harper wanted to send a clear signal to his rank and file that, no matter what Mr. MacKay has been saying, "the deal is still on and you don't beat up on the NDP."</blockquote>One would be well advised to pay attention as to when and, more importantly, from whence one might find monkeys flying.
