Even though I moved a lot growing up and also a lot as an adult, I still consider in a very real sense the time, 1981 to 1991 when I lived in Halifax as the time when I was home. If I am asked I usually describe Kingston, which I really like, as Halifax with jobs. If I was honest, though, I don't know if I could move back east, 1000 km from anywhere else, the daydream of Atlantic Canadian perfection being shattered by actual travel. But in large part it is the style of the good people of Halifax that is attractive and you can maintain some connection to that sense through The Coast. It has one of the better web sites for a hometown weekly I have seen and reminds me that somewhere the unimpressed slacker/achiever artsy-farsty foodie mentality still seems to govern.
