Tractor demonstrations from Budapest from Lisa H.:
There was a month long strike here concerning EU grant distribution which had armies of farmers parking their tractors along the grand boulevard (Dozsa Gyorgy) towards Hero Square
I love these so much I want to call her Lisa Lisa H. and play New Order's "Bizzare Love Triange" or, better, Depeche Mode's "Just Can't Get Enough" over and over as I click from one to the other. I think in Polish you might get away with: bardzo złoto. I don't know in Hungarian. That building in the back on the right is amazing as the the guy's hat in the same photo.
Update: Sure Lisa has the translation, the news and some of the history in the comments but I figured out in the middle of the night why I love that hat:
You see? He has taken a tuque, shaped it like a tyrolean and come up with the tuquolean. Love.

The story (who knows if it's true. we heard it from a cab driver) concerning the grant distribution problem is that the government ministry didn't have enough staff to give out the money, so they contracted out to some private sector companies who are mishandling the affair. The driver said that by hanging on to the grants they (these companies) are able to gain much interest and there may have been some shady dealings in the contracting out as well. But we don't know what the real story is because we don't have time to check. The strike ended on a historic day (March 15th) which is the anniversary of the 1848 rebellion.
Here is a translation of the various signs in the photos:
In the shot with the old lady:
Németh [Agricultural Minister Imre Németh]â??s word is like a dead letter (a letter that can't be delivered or returned)
It isnâ??t going to feed any farmers
A lovely pack of promises
The homeland has had it up to here with you
Dear Government,
Many lies, flashy talk, may you get struck down by a bolt from the sky.
There's also a sign saying Békés County Smallholderâ??s Association.
In the 'Betelgeuse' building photo the sign on the tractor in the centre says:
If we starve, so do you!
