I am starting to dislike Chelsea. I thought, fair enough, another power house would be a good thing but now they want too much:
Chelsea are poised to make another high-profile swoop after reportedly agreeing an £18m deal for Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. Both The Sun and the Daily Mirror revealed that the Premiership champions had agreed a five-year deal with the 23-year-old England international. City boss Stuart Pearce had hoped to keep the highly-rated Wright-Phillips, who signed a new contract last season. But the club are heavily in debt and could not refuse the offer.Wright-Phillips (shown above with ball and foot and head equally high) is one of the most exciting players I have seen lately and I know City ticket holder Steve agrees. Given that the sport transfers player's contracts for cash rather than players of comparable value like in hockey or baseball, the rich can just stockpile the best players. And Chelsea are the only rich team now as the BBC reports Arsenal could not bid at that range and as Man U is destined for its new home mid-table. I am really looking forward to the new Arsenal stadium and its competitive revenue.
Update: Oddly, the BBC changed the beginning of the story just as I cut and pasted it. It now reads this:
Manchester City have not received any bids for winger Shaun Wright-Phillips. Newspaper reports on Saturday claimed Chelsea were poised to sign the England youngster on a five-year contract for a transfer fee of £18m. But BBC Sport understands that no formal offer for Wright-Phillips, 23, has been received by City. Now I am all aflutter.
