One line from the BBC report on the five year financial plan for Man U stands out:
United supporters will also be alarmed at suggestions that manager Sir Alex Ferguson is to be limited to a transfer fund of £25m a season for the next five years. So, as a means to ensure the fiscal viability of the club, the new owners are confirming that they will spend no more in a given year than 83% of what they paid for one player, Rio Ferdinand, a few years ago. While that was the dumbest transfer fee ever paid, it still reflects the fact that Man U's best days are now past it. Compare the plan to the 300 million pounds extra Chelsea has spent in the last two years alone. Will there be that Leeds-like descent for Man U after all?
