I get in trouble when I post sandwich pictures. I think DJ Mixmaster Michael D. just about fainted on New Year's Day 2004 when I posted this one.
But I had to illustrate my obsession with Greek Village Take-out. Apparently my lunch needs do not just take a village but villages. My Cambodian obsession is just a couple of doors down King Street from this new Greek one. The sandwich is called Bifanas which is apparently Portuguese rather than Greek. Note the Pan Chancho baked bun (baked on the same block). Note the neat stack of pork tenderloin medalions with some gooey cheese. I wonder if that is piri-piri sauce - it is a mix of sweet and hot red pepper sauce. [I have always wanted mahi-mahi with piri-piri sauce accompanied by couscous.] The sauce slops into the bun making a gooey soppy mushba of delight. For $5.95 you get the sandwhich and a good sized Greek salad. For about four more bucks, the four big dolmadakis - grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat with a dippy side of tzatziki.
I start holidays today. So I treated me. Me been good. Go.

You think CV is good, try that little place on Bagot where all the busses stop, right across from Hotel Dieu. Excellent, excellent food!

Nee: that is Cambodiana and I love that, too. A little on the owner here. Their version of "western style" is excellent but very hot. They also have an aromatic coconut green veggies soup that amazing.

Ever think of trying something as simple as a good old PEI Strawberry Shortcake made with a sweet biscuit and whipped cream? Yummy!

Would that be exactly the same strawberry shortcake available in every other place except that they would never think of calling it New York Strawberry Shortcake or Manitoba Strawberry Shortcake?<p>PS - I hear folks say that about people who like rice, too - can't you just eat potatoes and forget the rest. Books as well.
