My mapping of the range of frozen custard continues with this information emailed from Gary in New Hampshire:
I am not sure where to find froz. cus. in NH. People seem to go for just ice cream scoops here. There is a terrific farm near us with a dairy barn and ice cream, and most importantly, piggies to talk to (cows and goats etc also). South Otselic, NY, pop. 300 or so has a great summer custard place.Vital key information seeing as it lies between Cooperstown and Ithaca NY, 30 miles east of Cortland known to Kingstonians as a location of a rebroadcasting transmitter of WRVO NPR out of Oswego. It is all coming together nicely.

The best frozen custard place that I know of is Fran Ceils on South Park Ave. in Lackawanna, NY. Yes, the former steel-town now better known for housing a terrorist cell a few years ago. All of the bad stuff is instantly forgotten as the first bite of their frozen goodness hits your tastebuds.
As a former-Rochestarian (or Irondequoiter), I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the locals there will sing the praises of Abbott's Frozen Custard to the end of their days.
Hope that adds to your map.

I have located an Abbots in Syracuse near the zoo but yet to attend. As my good spouse noted this morning, we are very interested in good "shack" food.

Time for a frozen custard, or ice cream, blog?

Who knows? I would rather have a regional food shacks of NE North America blog. That is information people need.

There is an ice cream blog that has stagnated to a degree: Tasted Like Ice Cream. I think all the members either went on a diet, lost interest, or are in an extreme ice cream slump after the long winter. Most of the members live in Rochester, but there's a few from out of state or other parts of WNY.

I absolutely second Julia's recommendation re: Abbott's Frozen Custard. It's the only reason some of us still live in Rochester. The Fast Ferry ain't cutting it.
Allow me to suggest chocolate almond. Although the Marmite Kid swears by vanilla.

I couldn't agree more about Abbott's Frozen Custard...it is literally the best tasting dessert on earth. You truly haven't lived (and clearly aren't living in Rochester) if you have never indulged in a chocolate almond cone.
