One of the more interesting things about the Canadian Federal Personal Information Protection and Electionic Documents Act is the definition of personal information:
``personal information'' means information about an identifiable individual, but does not include the name, title or business address or telephone number of an employee of an organization. While it does not include your work title, work address and work telephone number you can see that your work email is not excluded. This was thought an oversight but the Federal Privacy Commissioner has ruled that the plain wording of the statute is clear enough to prohibit the sending of spam to work email addresses.
It is also good to note that the implication is the same for home email - collection of emails for commercial spamming is an invasion of privacy in Canada.
