I had a great time in Syracuse over night. We flucked into staying at a recently refurbished cylindrical hotel near the intersection of I-81 and I-690 called Radisson at the Marx. For 79 bucks a room, we were very surprised to find newly swankified rooms, free parking and a leather sofa infested lounge that had Southern Tier Porter. Highly recommended.
We came for an infusion of the Orangemen lacrosse game against Army. It was 9-4 for the homeside. Have a coney dog at your own risk. You have been warned.

FYI, that hotel used to be known locally as "The Beer Can."

There is a certain appropriateness in that name as well given that we tested out the Blue Tusk, Clarks and a few other places in town.

There was other good neon I wanted to get photos of - especially Stavros' Gyros. We passed that in a cab but I was not sure where it was. Speaking of cabs, is Syracuse proud of its virtual eradication of the taxi trade? We couldn't find them anywhere. Hiked from the Carrier Dome to the Marx due to no other options.

I am not sure what the situation is today, but years ago there was much sturm und drang over which taxi company got the rights to the University Hill. You have to call for taxis, at any rate. No hailing.

YES!!!! They had Southern Tier Beer! If you imbibed, know that I personally know the guys who made that tasty beverage (although I prefer Phin & Matt's Extraordinary Ale). *grins* So that's sort of like me offering you a beer from the county fridge, or something.

Julia! Have I ever told you that we have openings at the beer blog for reporters from the front? Happy to post a cheery article on Southern Tier with lots of photos anytime.
NYCO - whichever power that is won that battle did a very good job as there was not a cab to be seen anywhere. Calling didn't seem to do much good either. We survived, however, and the tramping marches through the snow did us good.

LOL While I enjoy beer, I wouldn't say I'm the best at reviewing them. Especially when you consider that I don't drink stouts or porters. However, the next time I go to Southern Tier Brewing Co. (which has tours on Sats. and now has a bar open from 2-11pm on Sat. w/ food), I'll be sure to take pictures and take copious notes.
