Figured out the road for the summer this evening. Kingston to Lancaster Co, Pa. to a Delaware beach to Virginia Beach to DC to Erie Pa. to Kingston. About 1625 miles or 2600 km.
After all the discussion and emails, looking forward to sit next to actual warm water, taking the kids to see the museums in Washington DC and trying some weck in western NY. Google Maps plus internet hotel booking is a great combination. I find that the deals are just as good when you avoid travelocity or some other web travel agency as long as you start early.
One thing I wish Google Maps would do is what I have pasted together to the right: a multi-stage round trip. Why is that a feature no one would think would be useful?
The western leg may be less exciting but I be there is a warm water lake beach or at least a good snack shack worth the effort. I may go find Johnstown Flood National Memorial, too, if I can figure out how to not give the kids nightmares afterwards. Hell - there's only so much ice cream in one lifetime, eh? Probably some bitchin' mini-putt in western PA as well.

This summer I drove from Toronto to D.C through PA along the route you show here. My trip didn't call for any stopping but it was a nice drive. I'm sure you can find something amusing along the way.

Thanks for that, Matt. There are basically two routes across the hills of Pa and this will be my first go at this western one.

so are you going south?

I think so. I want to mini-putt and BBQ and beach my way through the mid-Atlantic states wherever they are.

All cancelled. Southern New England is too close.
