Offensive and Practical - Day Two
It's getting sillier:
Prime Minister Paul Martin is insisting that the United States must seek permission before firing any missiles over Canada. The call came today in response to warnings that Canada has abdicated part of its sovereignty by refusing to take part in the U.S. missile-defence project. The top American envoy to Canada, Paul Cellucci, says Canada would be "outside of the room" while the U.S. decided whether to fire at incoming missiles. But Martin said today: "We would expect to be consulted. This is our airspace, we're a sovereign nation and you don't intrude on a sovereign nation's airspace without seeking permission."
So we can expect that this would occur?:
General Fred: Are they over Maine yet?
Major Ted: No, Sir, just passing over Fredericton New Brunswick - about 30 miles east of the border.
General Fred: Well hold off whatever you do, man! We don't want two international incidents on our hands today.
Major Ted: Roger Wilco that, Sir.

Without missile defence, some alliance of nations, through the use of submarine-launched ballistic missiles (SLBM's), might try to trigger a "mutual assured destruction" nuclear war between North America and another nation.

[Hmmm...who has SLBM-capable subs other than the known nuclear players?]<p>
In any event, if the do exist, a well penned letter from Pierre Pettigrew could encourage them to not pop up under the Artic but instigate their mischief directly off New England from the US side of the George's Bank line.

Homework for next week: find out how many nations have submarines capable of launching ballistic missiles.

...and whether, of that potential class group, there are any outside of the duality which would participate in being tricked in to a "mutual assured destruction" nuclear war.

Jack Bauer IS our only hope.
And after 24 hours? What then? Obi-Wan Kenobi?
Alan - February 25, 2005 6:13 pm
No - just hit the dirt and hug until the coast is clear.
