Even though we are in an election campaign, the holiday season and dealing with the on-set of winter, it is important to keep baseball in mind because you know spring training camp opens in two months and the grapefruit league begins in three. There really is not that much time to fret.
- Good to see that the Yankees lost 50 to 85 million last year. On a budget of $310, this is not exactly wise business planning. Will the hammer ever drop there? Or is this owning a ball team really just a bauble, a plaything for the bazillionaire?
- The Red Sox have picked up some very wise picks in the free trade market despite their management by committee. The New York Times has an interesting article on how they are managing to manage in this way.
- The Boston Herald contemplates the fates of Manny and Johnny as well as the opportunities moving them would provide. Plus, trading Wells and Clements from the now overstuffed pitching rotation also mean that there are going to be lots of new faces. This could be a very powerful Sox line-up for 2006.

Yes, trade Manny to the Angels. :0)
Honestly, considering how important a true #1 hitter is to teams I'd say Damon should be your #1 priority. Look at the big hitting 1st baseman that left Boston for the ANgels a few years ago. He sucked when he went to the Angels, who had no lead off hitter worth a damn, and then the Mets(same thing).
Damon is much more important. You've got thunder elsewhere in the line up. And Lowell is no slouch with the stick either. I still remember what he did against the Cubs with a broken hand. Protect him in the line up and you won't miss Manny all that much.
Juan Pierre is a speed demon, surely and trully, but does he bring that same do or die attitude that Damon does? I think not. Damon is a must for you guys. If the choice is Ramirez or Damon, pick Damon.
Being able to win small ball is much harder than winning long ball. You get into the playoffs against dominant pitching you'll need Damon a whole lot more.

The Jays are actually making interesting moves worth watching though the idea getting rid of Hudson is insane.

Another Florida Marlins fire sale. Incredible savings. Everything must go!(For some reason the Shadow Stevens commerical for Frederated, SS as Fred Rated, is comming to mind.) at least they waited a season or so after the WS run to dismantle the team this time.
