I am in the start of a clam shack flame war over at Blork's place. The Sea Swirl at Mystic, CT - makers of the fine fried food above - is my candidate for best clams. Astoundingly, it is food that cannot be made at home - who would try? For more background, here is Ian Brown from last year in the Globe on the clam shack as idea and ideal.
I am already dreaming of the clams of 2006.

Holy crap that looks good. I can't believe I drove past Mystic so many million times without doing some research.
Here in Halifax we have Murphy's and The Sheleliegh House in Truro. Never fail to stop.

Murphys!!! I used to go there after school in 1978 to 1981. I think it is in the VIA station now but used to be next to the Dairy Queen across from the record shop. Buy the new lp by The Jam, celebrate with fish and chips.
