I read this quote at Johnny G's excellent site which is featuring his part in the morality play known as the CBC lockout these days. DJ JG Jr. quotes from (and links to so I won't - because HTML is sooooo 2003) an op-ed in the Globe this morning by CBC pres Robert Rabinovitch:
Taken together, the proposals we have put forward to our unionized employees seek to ensure that the CBC can employ the right people for the right jobs at the right time. It seems obvious, but that is the core of our dispute with our union. Without this ability, our programming will suffer and the CBC will gradually become less relevant and attractive to Canadians.Under his guiding hand, have we not suffered already from lack of relevance and attraction? How is what looks like some sort of rostering of consulting journalists going to improve that? Because you know the best and brightest always look to land a position which offers the least stability and long-term prospects.
Hey - striking out roman numeral 3 makes a nice picket fence...

The CBC should hire a huge army of real reporters full time (e.g. Stephanie Nolan at the Globe), and some serious producers, also full time, and give up this bean counting in lieu of vision that they are doing now.
