I'll grant you the moustache, jacket and pose, but that's about all he had going for him. Beyond rigging the 1917 election in his favour he nearly destroyed the country for the sake of the empire.
OK...ok...
How about MacKenzie King? He pulled the rabbit out of the hat a time or two...not to mention holding the odd seance...Maybe Paul Martin needs a little help from the other side (and I am not talking NDP!
His statute just behind the east block is pretty snazzy.

I loved how Layton could barely keep the grin of his face last night. No, wait. I thought he looked ridiculous. Less credible than Harper even. You know the country's a mess when Duceppe sounds the best of the 4 leaders.
It's not the coat, it's the "in your face" attitude we need. Like Trudeau - they said he wasn't in touch with the youth generation, so he married a co-ed. That's the kind of unapologetic leadership we need these days. Stop saying you're sorry and JUST ACT COOL. Ok, an awesome coat does indeed help.
King was good, but if we're choosing from amongst the PM's immortalized on Parliament Hill, my choice would be Laurier: Intelligent; principled; knew how to defend his beliefs and compromise at the same time; and wasn't afraid to tell people the things they didn't want to hear.
As for his statue on the south-east(?) side of the Hill, he just looks as if he's going to be there longer than anyone else, out of shear determination.
Alan is apparently a Gen X-er who has hit 40... 41... 42... 43... 44... err... 45!... yikes...46!!! Holy Moly - 47. NIX THAT!!! Moley Most Holy... now 48....ummm... 49.
Pick any day's tunes as heard on CBC Ottawa's All in a Day hosted by my personal emailing buddy, Brent Bambury. You won't find a better music selection on radio anywhere - certainly not on the deeply dowdy CBC.
From Jan to March 2006, I tried a group humour blog with others on the subject of Canadian politics. It did not last but the posts were worth keeping. #16 was banned. There were no comments. It was at www.shadowcabinet.ca.

Sadly, Laurier lacks any personal querks which make him of any use to my sarcastic tendencies what so ever.

Lacks any personal quirks? Have you seen his forehead? Biggest receding hairline in Canadian history.
