Talking about the Ryder Cup is not really talking about golf because somehow it is a different thing. It looks like the USA is in for a whuppin' as Europe goes into the last day up 11-5 needing only 3 wins to retain the Cup. Here are the pairings and my guesstimations as to how it will play out:
Tiger Woods v Paul CaseyWinners are in bold.
Phil Mickelson v Sergio Garcia
Davis Love v Darren Clarke
Jim Furyk v David Howell
Kenny Perry v Lee Westwood
David Toms v Colin Montgomerie
Chad Campbell v Luke Donald
Chris DiMarco v Miguel Angel Jimenez
Fred Funk v Thomas Levet
Chris Riley v Ian Poulter
Jay Haas v Padraig Harrington
Stewart Cink v Paul McGinley

There is nothing wrong with talking about golf. You could be right in your picks. Mine are...

Tiger Woods v Paul Casey...one word...intimidation...5 and 4
Phil Mickelson v Sergio Garcia...tough match to pick, but Phil has something to prove, and will do so...3 and 2
Davis Love v Darren Clarke...Davis was better in afternoon match, and had swagger in stride yesterday...these guys are buds, but 4 and 3
Jim Furyk v David Howell...another toughie...Jim has sore hand...2 and 1
Kenny Perry v Lee Westwood...Lee has been playing very well...3 and 2
David Toms v Colin Montgomerie*Clincher*...on his Ryder Cup record
Chad Campbell v Luke Donald...Chad has been bad...4 and 3
Chris DiMarco v Miguel Angel Jimenez...go either way, but crowd is factor here...dormie on 17
Fred Funk v Thomas Levet...American crowd will get him pumped..3 and 2
Chris Riley v Ian Poulter...great young gun...6 and 5
Jay Haas v Padraig Harrington...No pressure at this point and Paddy will relax...3 and 2
Stewart Cink v Paul McGinley ...likes the pressure...2 and 1

The key moment, not unlike Ian Woosnam's 1991 Master victory and its scene of him not putting up with him being booed by the crowd when he was in the lead on Sunday, was Garcia talking back to the crowd after the first of his three birdie to break away from Phil Mickelson. I think the wisdom of shouting "U-S-A" can be questionable when facing simply a better team.

Phils foolish "knock-down" over water was well commented on by Johnnie Miller. The lie was good, no wind and plenty of green to work with. His caddy failed to point him in the right direction on that shot and it was fatal. But, Sergio had putted well all week and was hard to beat. Talking back has distracted him in other matches, but this time he got the job done.

There are reports now that the US team simply dislikes each other enough that they cannot get along. I think that is maybe true but has there ever been a time in my life that the USA lacks depth in golk as it does today with only 4 of the top ten golfers in the world and 13 of the top 30? Heck, five of the top ten could not even play in the Rider Cup as they are neither US or European. Maybe the USA needs to add Canada to its team.

To paraphrase the Comic Book guy from the Simpson's: "Worst Ryder Cup, ever"
The US looked like they disliked each other more than they disliked the Europeans, and a svelt Montgomery actually came across as, well, charming (!?). Bizarre.

Why should the U.S. get a free ride to the cup every 2 years...or Europe for that matter? Let countries like Canada and South Africa challenge for it as well. But, that means the USA might not make it, and the PGA loses a fundraiser, the networks lose coverage, ad nasaeum. Jeez, money complicates everything, eh?
