It was supposed to be more fun, certainly more fun that 19-8. My four year old is saying good things about the Yankees. It was never supposed to be like this...never like this.

In the local paper, there's a letter from a Red Sox fan who took the Thruway after watching one of the games. The toll taker saw his Red Sox hat and informed him, "Your toll is 1918."
Cruel...

It is getting so bad with the local radio and TV coverage that I am starting to like the Yankees. This year's team are particularly the product of Joe Torre, quiet gentlemen who get the job done very, very well. Is that what eating white hot does? Turns a Red Sox fan soft on the Evil Empire?

i went there after 1978 for a bit. the expos were my team anyway. i mean i just didn't see the point of hanging on to the sox as my junior circuit team. it hurt. but it wasn't satisfying to root for the yanks and eventually i drifted back. years later i found out why it felt so hollow. three years ago i was sitting at fat boys drive in brunswick having suppper wiht my kid. it's a beautiful summer night and we're both still damp from swimming in the caribasset river. the place is packed and the dairy freeze next door is doing a good business too. the dark narcotic american night is coming on. a couple of cars over there's some noisy frat boys from bowdoin laughing too loud. one of them pipes up; "it doesn't take any character to pull for the yankees," he says, "it's like rooting for the sun to come up tomorrow." from the mouths of babes. keep the faith baby. there's always next year. be strong.

I think that was from happier times earlier this year.

Its not me so much. It's the boy. I will get the four year old to give you a call so you can straighten him out. Won't be the last time I suppose.
