I am not as opinionated on Buy Nothing Day as Mike. Anyone should protest anything they want to especially to make us think about the faith of consumerism. But I did buy two Tusker ales from Kenya yesterday and was as a result directly supporting third world workers making a quality product. I think that is good. I wish I could do that more. When I was in the wholesale cut flower trade, I bought the nicest ginger blooms and Birds of Paradise direct from a Jamaican farm and bright and sturdy carnations from a Chilean workers co-op. Using your dollar to support who you want to support is a much better idea than buying less.
