I am under a denial of interest attack. Why can't people in Ohio all vote before noon? Is it too much to ask?
On the upside the Daily Show is doing an hour long special.
Update: Gmail lives again.
Update: Why isn't Alaska's Peter Tosh memorial ballot measure being reported during this two hour break in anything interesting? Here is what it is about:
Would legalize the cultivation, use and sale of marijuana for persons 21 and older; the state and local government would regulate marijuana like alcohol and tobacco; doctors would be able to prescribe drugs to all patients, including children; public use laws could be enacted by the government as well as laws in the interest of public safety.Interesting to see that Utah's same sex marriage proposition (as it were) passed without the popular wording "that marriage consists only of the legal union between a man and a woman...or some women...related or otherwise"
Good Night: 198 Bush to 188 Kerry not counting another 18 for Kerry in Oregon and Washington. Which really makes it 198 Bush to 206 Kerry.
Miles to go. Larry King, who does not need sleep because he is an ALIEN, will be still talking at breakfast and Ohio will still be uncertain. Certainly it would be easier to be a Bush supporter at this moment than a Kerry one but it could all come down to the split allocation of electoral votes in Maine. What the hell did the neighbours do, portland? On the upside, the sofa is there for you and yours, our token political refugees.
Congratulations to Ian and Tessa who singlehandledly out-Ezekiel-ed the Mennonites of Lancaster County with tales from both the Book of Mormon and sin-centrals NY/Cali, swinging to the Democrats those confused but mightily good folk who run lovely train museums.
See you in the recounts.

Sounds like we're watching the same coverage. Had a good laugh watching the Daily Show, Sharpton was a hoot! I'm not sure how much longer I can stay up though :)

Bush 237 - Kerry 188
Bush called winner in Florida
Reports that alot of Democrats are wandering the streets of Dade County feeling fooled, disappointed and confused because they did not find the expected names <i>Michael Moore</i>, <i>Dixie Chick</i> or <i>Bruce Springsteen</i> anywhere on their ballots?.which will be something else added to the long list of protests and excuses to whine about.

Where is Ohio...what are they doing?

79% of polling stations reporting in Ohio
51% Bush...

A sea of red on the map...why is this close?
Wayne - November 3, 2004 12:38 AM
At this point, pundits explain Kerry needs to win Ohio to claim Presidency. Bush can lose Ohio and still win overall, but would need to upset Kerry in hard-core Democratic states remaining.
Wayne - November 3, 2004 12:40 AM
Daschle behind by 3700 votes. Wow!

"WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- White House sources are telling UPI that they believe George W. Bush will win Ohio and be re-elected president of the United States."
Wayne - November 3, 2004 12:46 AM
...but, if the margin of win is less then the number of uncounted provisional ballots, it could be TWO WEEKS before all counting is done in Ohio!!
Ben - November 3, 2004 12:50 AM
Bush will take Ohio and New Mexico giving him 271 minimum. It's pretty much over.
Wayne - November 3, 2004 1:09 AM
Copley Square is shown hoping for another comeback. But it is very quiet right now there.

88% of Ohio polls returned...51% Bush. Networks claim not enough to call winner.(And there is that provisional ballot thingy)

New Hampshire with 4 goes to Kerry. 1st state to switch from 2000
Wayne - November 3, 2004 1:23 AM
Nader hurts Kerry in Wisconsin, Michigan and Nevada with 1% in each...voters that inarguably would have fallen left if Nader had bowed out.
Ben - November 3, 2004 1:37 AM
Quite arguable actually. Many Nader voters are 'fringe' voters and wouldn't vote at all if their only choices were Bush and Kerry. Kerry has a lead of over 130,000 in Michigan while Nader has just over 15,000 votes. How does that hurt Kerry?
Wayne - November 3, 2004 1:44 AM
Numbers will grow as poll results come in. And I disagree that Nader's suppport are fringe players. Naders votes would sew it up for Kerry in what will be a close call in all 3.
Ben aka the Tiger in Winter - November 3, 2004 3:42 AM
11 days till Ohio gets resolved! It wouldn't be as fun any other way. ;-)
Mike - November 3, 2004 5:01 AM
4:55am Kingston time and Larry King just signed off to go get some nappytime before his New York show tonight.

Yah! My wildcard one! That counts for something doesn't it? LOL
Alan - November 3, 2004 6:59 AM
Who knew I had night staff! <p>I just woke up after seven hours of sleep. I listened to the Ohio secretary of state on WLW 700 am at about 2 am explain live abouthe provisional votes being counted by law over ten days and that the Red Sox owners were flying in lawyers from blue mountain to Ohio.
Alan - November 3, 2004 7:14 AM
<b>Later:</b> I moved this to the front page as I think it is pretty snazzy: 2 November 2004 was the biggest day ever for this here blog with 2281 visits from 1026 unique visitors.
Wayne - November 3, 2004 7:44 AM
Was I unique, too?
I just got up...too old for an all-nighter...feel pretty "unique" right now!
Nothing has changed, Democrats are still complaining on TV!
I need a large black.
Alan - November 3, 2004 7:47 AM
You are 1/1026 of unique, Wayne.

The Repubs have run the table ( Pres.,Senate and House). To quote Mark Steyn: "Next time, take the exit polls and hold them upside down".
Maybe all the disaffected Dem. "star" supporters can float Michael Moore out to sea, build new mansions, and live on his girth for the remainder of their lifetimes.
Alan - November 3, 2004 10:06 AM
Ah, the long knives begin to appear.

How could so many people not trust, believe and blindly follow someone named "<a href="http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/07/14/slimfast.whoopi/index.html" target="blank">Whoopi</a>"
SayNay? - November 3, 2004 1:50 PM
No "knives" just a list of those "star" Kerry supporters who said they would leave the US if Bush was re-elected, with letters sent asking if any assistance is required to facilitate their move, and seeking their approval to convert their abandoned mansions in Hollywood etc. into low income housing units or the like.
SayNay? - November 3, 2004 2:29 PM
Just listening to Edward's concession 'THE BATTLE RAGES ON' speech ("you stood for hours" to vote etc - what a sacrifice - "we will continue the fight for you"): so much for "national healing".
And Kerry's concession speech following: the danger of division, begin the healing, even if we litigated we can not win, after each election the next morning we all wake up as Americans - it's a gift (tell that to his "star" and other supporters who felt they would have to leave the US if they lost). No congratulations to Pres. Bush - somewhat a lack of class.
He should have just said (apologies to Jeff Greenfield) "The people have spoken - the bastards".
