Further to last week's examinations of the jet at Brockville, this is the jet on a stick at the 401 at Trenton, equadistant to the west - it can actually be seen from the highway. A far more recent skewering, the jet has a nice blue plaque near it that says it only went up in 1995. I was quite surprised by this as I though the era of planes on sticks came to an end decades ago.

Ah, so THAT'S what you mean by "jets on a stick!" You left me scratchin' my head over on my blog for the last few days. :)

It's sweeping the nation, Donna: jet on stick fever.

Geez .. next time I'm in Winnipeg, I'll send you three pics - two T-33s (one from Winnipeg and one from Gimli) and one Widowmaker from CFB Winnipeg ...

You are golden, baby!!!
Gotta be on a stick of some sort and if you can get the plaque that is a big bonus. What is a widowmaker?

Alan - I actually thought you meant injuried former hockey players, not fighter aircraft. ;) I think there's also a jet on concrete stick in Brandon.

I quite like the idea of Donna and Nils, two people who I have never met but both related in their way to the CBC and the Maritimes, running about Manitoba, a place I have never been, to obtain photos of jets on sticks for me. Please let me know of anything I can do to fulfill this small dream of mine.
Please keep in mind we welcome evidence of pre-jet era flight related objects on sticks as well. Mere land based presentations, however, are not encouraged without overwhelming arguments justifying extension of the project rules.

I keep reading 'Jet on a stick forever'.

My Dad was head of Central Flying School - the RCAF's Jet Training Program. (It was very cool, on the day when dads would come in to speak to my elementary school class, to have him show up in his Top Gun flight suit with all the zippers and aviator's sunglasses). He instructed on all manner of jets - primarily T33s and the later Tutor (with its side-by-each seating conformation).
The "Widowmaker" was the CF-105 Starfighter jet - not only because of its stubby wings, but primarily because its single engine was notoriously unreliable. And of course, they were kept in service long after their rated lifespans, which made them even more of a gamble. Still, their pilots were the hotshots in the Pilot's Mess.
I'll be in Winnipeg and in Gimli in July ... you'll get the pictures sometime later in that month ... sound good?

Note: That's a Widowmaker in the pic from Trenton ...

Excellent. You get to pick a silly officious title for yourself, you know, Nils. Postmaster General of the 'Canadian Jet On A Concrete Stick' Task Force, perhaps?
Nils Ling - May 26, 2004 10:04 AM
By the way, we Air Force brats called them "jetsicles" ...

[I had difficulty posting a reply at your sight for some reasons, DOnna.]
That is amazing, Donna. A trio of sticks was beyond my imagination, my wildest dreams. I will grab that image and post a compliment laden link. Pour yourself a GUinness, Task Force Prarie Wing Commander. Tell your pal Steve, there is a silly title waiting for him if you nap that Shearwater pic. I have gone to airforce day there but can't remember it.
You can't find me an XXL yellow and black soccer jersey, too, can you? [I'll even reference the comment this time]

Task Force Prarie Wing Commander, eh? As the kids would say these days, w00t!
That's strange you couldn't post on my site, Alan. But I did notice Blogger/Blogspot was acting a little wonky today. You did successfully post, however, so feel free to try again.
