We had fireworks out the back door last night and the kids loved it. I have a 15 second movie which I have posted along with two shorter ones but it really just shows fireworks. Much better live and, a real warning to the downloading set, the 17.4 MB clip is a bit of a committment:
So, I am looking around for local sites for firework events and look at Cape Vincent, NY's French Festival on Saturday July 10th which has fireworks that night. Cape Vincent is two short ferries away on the other side of Wolfe Island (scroll to the bottom for the view from the southern tip of Wolfe Island). Here are some of the French Festival's events:
11:00am OFFICIAL OPENING, Reviewing Stand, Broadway. Welcome by Mayor and Town Supervisor, Crowning of French Festival Queen, Presentation of Queens Court, Proclamation by French Festival QueenNapoleon! You know you dealing with a different country when Napoleon, the arch-Satan in pre-WWII English Lit., is leading the kiddie parade. Even in the Acadian communities of the Maritimes (one of whoise cultural weekend I was on the board of and made jambalia for 300 one day) I can't imagine the French Revolution being any part of the theme, given that 'round about 1800 they were still pretty much keeping their heads down and returning to their lands about then.
LA NOUVELLE FRANCE-FRENCH MUSIC AND DRESS
2:00pm PARADE-Napoleon will lead the parade; includes Floats, Bands and Other Attractions. Over 50 units
4:00pm Awards at Reviewing Stand-trophies to winning bands and floats by the French Festival Queen
Makes you want to go just to see how upside-down other small things are. Doing some scouting this afternoon, looking for a hot.

What was the occasion?

I'm not sure if they actually call him a satan in Dutch literature, but I'm pretty sure not everybody was happy when he sent in his brother to rule the 'Low Lands'. (some good came out of it too though: French styled democracy and the climax, Civil Registration. Hence why so many Dutch people have funny last names.
