Well, its an election night. I am not a political animal. I am not an election freak. I am, however, an election coverage nerd of the highest order. Best line so far for coverage is from the Globe and Mail:
Like maps? We've got them. That's is like a mickey of rum to the penniless wino. And speaking of which, where are the pint bottles still being passed out today. In the land of my rearing, Nova Scotia, the South Shore ridings fell into difficulties not that many years ago for some of the old black, the Cap'n, passing in return for votes. Not to mention loads of gravel but that is more at the provincial level. The tips of PEI likely still partake in the practice as well perhaps with that bestest of the Island's produce, Fort Augustus shine.
For me, it will be a day of listening to new media telling me how to listen to it tonight. But there are too many sources and you have to make your call. The chance for a good exchange between Rex Murphy and Rick Mercer at the expense of Peter Mansbridge is a pretty strong draw but Global will have the loudest and most meaningless graphics which Kevin "Earnest" Newman, once again being serious, will seriously try to explain. Lloyd Robinson - the only man satirized on SCTV still in the same job - will have me asleep before the Alberta results are out.
Why do they run election night coverage on radio where they always say things like "...and look at this just coming it..." I can't. It's radio.
So, I will probably be on the internet with my head craned to also watch CBC TV. I have enjoyed the privilege of being one of the brave and the few, the authors of Jim Elve's Election Blog throughout the campaign. It has been fun both baiting and discussing events with those most unfathomable of creatures, Tories, so it should be fun tonight.

I think I'm pretty much the same way ~ election night is mucho fun.
Part of the appeal is really seeing what's happening in all of these different ridings that we don't normally think about or hear about from all over the country - the incumbents, the challengers, the surprises, the close races. I like taking a peek at these varied and obscure places (with full knowledge that I live in an obscure place for most other Canadians) and trying to get a feel for what people are hoping and thinking. Who will be the Honourable Member for Blackstrap? for Burlington? for Burin-St.George's? and what does it mean to the people who are out there.
I think this kinda relates to the enjoyment of reading blogs from across the country; you get that glimpse into Canadian life and try to touch on that feeling that's out there.
