This stat from this article is no surprise to me, the son of a man who had my teen aged cousin smuggle sweeties into the hospital in his socks so the nurses would not catch him:
The sweetest tooth is Scottish. Scots account for just 5% of the British population but eat almost 10% of the nation's confectionery...Around one in every four bars of chocolate eaten in the EU is consumed by a Briton, accounting for 23% of total sales, according to the market analysts Datamonitor.This may mean that the five million or so Scots eat over 10% of all chocky bars in the 380 million person Europe. Would not surprise.

My native land - where Fried Mars Bars have their origin. Alan it's not just sweeties but fried food that are the hallmarks of the Scot's taste preference. Chips fried in beef dripping are among my own favourites.
