Mike asks an interesting question especially for one like me who hates the concept of branding. Yet there are still a few firms to which I am loyal:
- Sony - I never pause when considering whether to buy electronics at the Sony shop or elsewhere. Stereo stuff, snazzy radios, our digital camera. I was sold on them in law school when my roomie brought the 1970's 15 year old Trinitron for us to watch. Never seen a better picture since.
- IKEA - hex wrenches rule. No question, virtually no proof replacement policy on mail orders.
- MEC - I would not think of buying anything at a camping store without checking Mountain Equipment Co-op first. Prices are good and the cotton t-shirts are the best. One of my pals is a buyer for them and they really are as squeaky clean as they try to be.
- LL Bean - best source for 37 inch arm, 18 inch next dress shirt on the planet for under $50.00 CND. The Oxford cotton ones work in like an old pair of jeans. Seconds shop in downtown Portland within walking distance of Gritty's.
- Paddock Wood - when I brew, I buy from Saskatchewan.
That is just about it. The LCBO is a monopoly so it hardly counts and cheese is a concept.
Later: I am looking for an on-line soccer shop to which I can plight my troth. This one looks pretty good if only for the sock selection.

I am as yuppified as you...
I listen to my Sony car stereo in my Honda Si, wearing my MEC cycling clothing on my way to Brookvale to do some serious mountain biking on my Canadian made Devinci, all the while keeping snug in my LL Bean underwear, just after my nap on my Ikea couch.
(based on a true story)

My Dad puts in several miles walk each day, so we just got him a moisture-wicked shirt from MEC for Papa's Day.

Pears Soap. Ever since Holland in 1986 where I worked like a mad robot in the flower auctions from 6 am to 2 pm on what was apparently a holiday, I needed something that was like mild paint stripper. It also is a 17th centurt sort of product as well as having a nice rosemary thing. Manly, yes, but I like it too.
