In May, when we were in Cooperstown, I took a picture of this plaque on the second story of a building near the Baseball Hall of Fame. For folks like me who have no idea, this is the Treaty of Washington which settled the Alabama claims but also at Article XXX (watch my google ranks soar now) opened up reciprocal transit of the St.Lawrence, the Great Lakes and associated canals and rivers. Thanks Sammy Nelson.

There's a marker for the Treaty of Washington on Nepean Point in Ottawa, in between the National Gallery and the Ottawa River and next to the statue of Champlain.
