...as in this is how I know pop culture has twisted my brain and why the internet has made me a sad pathetic shell of a man:
- I read the BBC story about explosions in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, killing at least two.
- A voice in my head says "Uzbeks! Don't give them string or matches!"
- A quick search of Google comes up with a summary of SCTV script for episode #88 (#1 of season 4) in which Soviet television hijack SCTV's satellite signal and beam Russian programming to America. Notes for scene #12 state:
Beware of the ones who would undermine Mother Russia. "Mother Russia Cares." Uzbecks - extras; Announcer - Russian staff announcer.
It was aired October 16, 1981 so I was a first year undergrad and probably watched it with my buddies Tree, Wug, Fish and Jar (I did mention my undergrad era pals all have monosyllabic nick-names didn't I?). I recall Moosehead aka Fish (I did mention that they also had multiple nick-names) choking with laughter on the "don't give them string" line.
