(Oswego-AP) -- A central New York town is nearing six feet of snow from the latest onslaught of squalls blowing off of Lake Ontario. The National Weather Service says the town of Parish near the eastern end of the lake has received 69 inches of new snow over the past two days.
The city of Oswego has another two-plus feet of new snow today while nearby Fulton is buried under about five feet of snow that has fallen over the past week. Fulton officials have asked people to offer their vacant lots so highway crews have a place to dump the snow they're removing from city streets.
The weather service says Oswego County is approaching the ten-foot snowfall total for the month of January alone. Most schools in the area north of Syracuse closed for day, and the five-thousand students at Oswego State College are into their second snow day in a row.
