As a heads up, the Supreme Court of Canada is set to rule this week on the constitutionality of same sex marriages. Expect Massachusetts north. The Star reports that the minority Federal government is anticipating the progressive outcome:
Justice Minister Irwin Cotler says he now plans to introduce a bill to legalize gay marriages "as soon as possible" in the new year. Cotler told the Toronto Star he intends to move quickly, especially if a landmark ruling this week from the Supreme Court of Canada goes in the government's favour. The ruling this Thursday comes just two months after the court heard arguments in the case, much more swiftly than the government had anticipated. The minister had been aiming at the fall of next year for the introduction of legislation.Read The Star's whole story.

It's weird. I'm not really "for" gay marriage, not in the parading around with signs way. I'm sort of indifferent to gay marriage, in fact - but that's actually the point. Why do people care enough about the issue to actively deny gays the right to marry? I mean, what gives? Why not? It's such a strange issue. I can understand the gay side - specifically, those plumb spousal benefits - but I'm not sure I understand the anti-gay-marriage side. Why get so worked up about it?

Lets wait for the ruling and discuss the ruling to contextualize it to something solid-ish.
