Being at the vangard of Canuck-Dutchophile blogging, it is with sadness that we note the passing of the father to Queen Beatrix, [Ed.: I later realize that that is a pic of him with the future Queen - I wonder if in Canada?] the Dad to those nice Dutch princesses that spent WWII in Ottawa while Pops helped led the Dutch war effort back in London, fighting as a pilot against his homeland and the Nazis. The Ottawa stay gave rise to the annual tulip festival there as a remembrance of how the Dutch royal family was given refuge in Canada at that time. I think one of the princesses was born here and a part of the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa had to be declared officially part of the Netherlands. Bernhard helped start the World Wildlife Fund, not the World Wrestling Federation...just to clear up that point. No royalist fan here given what we have to work with but if your only scandle as a royal was alleged kickbacks in the 70s (and who wasn't involved with them then, eh, portland?) and you can pull off in life the variety of natty shades seen in the obit notices around the web, as illustrated, you've done pretty good for a royal. Raise a geneever and an oud bruin.

Minor correction: it's Bernhard, but as we Dutch say, nothing than good about the dead (literal translation).

Fixed. I blame the time of posting.
