This happened over a few minutes this afternoon and I was struck how this event was a turning point in my life in that it was a turning point in the life of my first child. In the late 60's the fairy brought dimes. I am sure the fairy has had to deal with inflationary pressures like the rest of us but I have no idea of the exact implications. I wish there was a website for the tooth fairy advisory board.

Hmmm...I think I can live with 2000% inflation over 30 years - a simple annualized rate of 66.67%. But a dime in 1970 could get you a Marvel comic of Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos or a butterfingers bar. It might actually have gotten you two bars as I recall in around 1971 or '72 there being a crisis in the sugar market which made bars jump from a nickle to a dime. What would 2 bucks get you now? Still a couple of chocolate bars but a comic?

Compound interest would make a dime two bucks over 30 years at a 19.32% annual rate of inflation. I suppose the tooth fairy could live in Argentina.

does $2 even get you a couple bars anymore, without hitting up the dollar store?

I still want to know what the Tooth Fairy does with all the teeth.

I am told by the five year old that she uses them in the construction of her castle. That is as good an idea as any I have heard so I am sticking with it.
