Just so you won't think it is all about the ales, here are some short short movies taken from and around the Strasburg Rail Road steam trains:
- rocking carriages [1.3 MB]
- coming into the station [2.8 MB]
- taking tickets [1.3 MB]
- steam passing steam [3.0 MB]
- our steam engine passing to hook up for the return trip [1.5 MB]
- passing Amtrac[2.0 MB]
One thing I like about the United States is that they do spectacle well. This 1915 train station was a real treat and far better fun that the Hershey experience despite the weight of advertising and money.
It was good value as a day pass for unlimited trips and crawling all over everything else was 58 bucks USD. For one particular train nutty four year old it caused a minor overload leading to good naps later on. The nearby Best Western in Paradise, PA, was a good base from which to make these excursions. Big pool, hot tub and the best complimentary breakfast I have found in this sort of place. The area attracts from the nearby US cities as well as the southern states so your kids will hear and see lots of sorts of folks they might not otherwise.
