If you're working under Windows, [PRTSC] (Complete screenshot) or [ALT + PRTSC] (currently selected window screenshot) would do the job. You only need a program like Paintshop Pro, Corel Photopaint, or Photoshopt to 'paste' it into.

Not smarter, no: The keycombo has been in Windows since Windows 3.xx. More systemwide keys you can find here. Or you can look through your Windows help/Windows 32 SDK help files.
