The class act of the political bloggers retired today. Michael Demmon's Discount Bloggger packed it in today after two years. Michael is a Newf in Atlanta who has worked as hard on his blog as anyone I have every read - libertarian and moderate, opinionated and tolerant. And that was the thing - being effectively a non-stop unpaid op-ed page means you have to keep up with the news, get up early, think about it all through work and be prepared to debate. He was as far as I am concerned the best but it was a hobby that ate too much time. Seeing the same thing, I have decided that I will focus on the magazine about me aspect of what I do here and let the world take care of itself. If you can't let the world be, then it is a big old world that will take up all your time if you want to do it right - and his blog did do it right.
If I had a Black Horse, I'd raise it to Michael.

Alan,
Thank you for that. And, I'll have you know, I think Black Horse is the BEST of Newfoundland's beers.
Of course, we used to call it Pony Piss!!

I was introduced to it by a Newf in first year law school, drank and said: "hey, that's smooth and mellow". That is what is written on the can. I think it is the only commercially brewed mild in Canada, whether it knows it or not.

He's one of faves too. Smart, funny and colourful...he'll be missed.
