My Dad's cousin and her hubby lives at Hilton Head, a little south of the land fall epicentre. Looks not too bad for them. We'll find out how it went if/when the power comes back on down there in a few days. Being a Maritimer, I have lived through a few hurricanes, including David in 1979 which snapped a tree in the backyard at Bible Hill, NS. We are not expecting more than rain and 70 km winds tomorrow [according to the Telex™ updates from "Larry", the one guy at Canada's Hurricane Center: "our attention is focussed"...ya right] as it is appearing to track a bit farther west of us here on the eastern tip of Lake Ontario.
News reports and emergency measures folk warn of lost patio furniture if not lashed down. Horrors.
Later: 3 pm update from Forecaster Franklin at the US National Weather Service.
