There is an interesting story out of England where the players for the national fitba team have voted to not play a qualification game for the European Championship against Turkey if the ban against one of their number for not attending immediately to a drugs test is not lifted. The FA is the national body that administers the national team separate from the leagues. Players pay for no cash and there is a great dispute on-going between the clubs and the FA about the amount of time - about one in six weeks and much of the summers - that their staff are required for national duty. I don't know how I feel about this. It is one thing to get Lemieux every two or four years to win gold for Canada - but every second month?

I think it will disqualify them - but not until they do not actually play. Turkey would be winner of the group, automatically qualifying and the second place would be one of Slovakia, Macedonia or Liechtenstein. The group runners-up, then, playoff against runners-up from another group over two legs, with the winners also making the finals in Portugal next summer. It would increase the chances of both Holland and Scooooooooootlaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand getting through.
