I like buildings. If I could do math at any level, I might have been an architect...well, I might have applied, got bored with or scared all the brain knowledge required (as opposed to look it up and think it up knowledge in law) and done something else. So in tribute to that path not taken, I am going to start posting on nice buildings I like. My first candidate was sitting there when I passed it looking very friendly and warm. Its Toronto Police HQ on Bay and College designed by these cats, though the webpage is a little vauge about who was responsible for what. What I liked about it was the pink stone on a grey day surrounded by greyer buildings.
It also has lots of vegetation on it. I liked the glass dome up top which picked up a few of the domes of other far older buildings in the neighbourhood - like the Yonge and Queen branch shown left, referred to here [sorry for the poor stolen photo]. I work right under a great dome and think domes are dandy. I went to undergrad where the cupola was a challenge to get into and a nightmare to wake in hungover at sunrise with the windows shut - I did that kind of thing 20 years ago. If the difference between a dome and a cupola is the ease of exit during moments of undergrad poor planning, make mine a dome
Comments? This isn't meant to be deep just about something I noticed.
