I don't usually like bad puns. I am sorry of the title of this little tale led anyone into hope of emotional truths. Its really about how many times I have packed my bags and moved residence for a month or more. Forty homes in fourty and a half years of life. I was in a meeting the other day trying to keep a brain on 4 hours of sleep going and I started jotting in the margins the timeline of my homes. Findings of little interest to anyone but me include:
- From September 1991 to September 1992 I moved nine times, to eight places, six counties, two countries;
- The house I called home the longest was the first in the new suburbs of Mississauga from April 1963 to June 1970;
- I lived in six different counties of Nova Scotia, six of Ontario;
- Past roomates include a newspaper editor, RCMP officer, many lawyers and doctors, a few departed, bureaucrats, teachers, a hospital pharmacist, some reverends, no entrepreneurs I can think of and no artists - Gen X safety seekers; and
- For 14 and a half years of my life, mainly as a young adult, I had 33 moves, each lasting under a year in duration.

While my father was a pastor in the Maritimes the longest I lived in one place was 3 years. I went to 4 elementary schools in 6 years, and had 2 grade 1 teachers. My older brother did 3 years of high school in 3 different provinces, the second of which was not on the semester system at the time, so his courseload was a mess.
I've lived in 4 provinces, one state, 9 towns and cities, and have lived in 14 different apratments/houses in 26 years.
Not quite as impressive as your stats Alan, but oh well. At least I know I'm not the only person that likes figuring this stuff out.

I was honestly surprised by the number - I figured maybe 15 to 20. I added 17 after I hit my twenty-sixth year so you may be on track to beat me before 2017. Then again, I would not wish recessions on you and pointless unending work migrations. My wife and I are hoping the next house here in Kingston to be a fit for a decade or more.
