The point at which the Mass turnpike meets New York State is about halfway from Brooklyn and the Canadian border. Ian's posting this morning considers the reasons for changing direction on the weekend commute from the farm to the apartment.
My neighbours in PEI included Yankees moving up and Canadians who wintered south. My great grandfather was born in the US. I have cousins in Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, South Africa, the US, France, Thailand, and a bunch more if I thought about it. My folks came to Canada, in part, because there was still post-WWII rationing in 1956 and partially because of global events (Hungary, Suez, Vietnam) looking like the build-up for WWIII.
Why is moving on so hard? Go north, young man. But visit in winter first. What other advice could you give a couple thinking about moving to Canada? Get muk-luks and a warm toque.

On the drive in I could only think of one word - Montreal. On the Amtrac to NYC, best place to learn CFL, raging local and global film industry, the most conservative political party in the province are the liberals. France without the small cars. Canada with appropriate perfume levels.

Nova Scotia. Although, I have never seen a country with such an evil immigration scheme as Canada.
